Centre Balexert, the largest shopping center in Western Switzerland in Geneva, was looking for a project manager capable of managing the comprehensive renovation project "RELOOKING Balexert". The relevant person should also have sufficient expertise to challenge the project planners on the technical aspects in order to optimize its construction.

The challenges

The Balexert shopping center consists of three buildings constructed at different times (built in 1971 and expanded in 2001 and 2010). The renovation project "RELOOKING Balexert" aimed to unify the center (about 14,000 m2) and to update the technical systems and equipment of the buildings. The work was carried out in 14 stages, from October 2018 to September 2021, in a facility in continuous operation.

The solution

Representation of the client towards all involved and/or affected parties as well as management of the project under the aspects of "costs - deadlines - quality". This also included strategic input and cooperation with the commissioned parties. Complex and multidisciplinary coordination between the operator, contractor, company and tenant was required, as well as collaboration with the marketing department for internal/external communication of the project.

The result

The project was successfully completed after almost 6 years (planning and construction), according to schedule and without exceeding the budget. Overall high satisfaction of the client and Balexert's customers with the work performed.

Gregory has been working in the construction industry since the age of 15. What began with an apprenticeship continued with a technical vocational baccalaureate, later the diploma as FH engineer and finally an MBA in management and engineering.

After several years as a civil engineer, he worked in the real estate promotion department of a large Geneva municipality.

During these activities he acquired deep knowledge in all phases of construction work. He is particularly passionate about working at the intersection of the technical fields with the legal, financial, and commercial aspects of the real estate industry.
